RADIOACTIVE is a project rock band founded in 1991 by the Swedish guitarist, songwriter and producer Tommy Denander (now also the mastermind behind GIANT among others). Denander is a spectacular musician who has contributed so much to the music and a list of his credits is staggering and far too long to cover in few lines, a modern Desmond Child for the European melodic rock scene and more!
You know exactly what to expect with Denander’s music, he's the master of hard but melodic rock with a real touch of class too and you cannot go wrong with any of his albums. “Reset”, is the sixth album under the RADIOACTIVE name, showcases a collection of energetic and melodic songs to celebrate Tommy Denander's talent in composing great melodic hits! As with the previous releases, Denander has brought in a stellar group of vocalists with the likes of Jeff Paris, Robin McAuley, Joey Vana, Jim Jidhed all making significant contributions. Once again Tommy Denander plays guitar, bass and keyboards, and together with Tommy, the famous producer Mutt Lange and Lenna Paris, provide awesome backing vocals.
This an album of AOR excellency with top of the album the same titled song,a positively driven melodic slow tempo where McAuley surpasses himself and even his best MSG days, a song warm as the sun rays on your face in the cold Scandinavian winter, uplifting and emotionally charged. But this is not the album's only strong moment. From TOTO to Huey Lewis and the News inspired "Midnight train", the album is full of catchy melodic rock songs. Among the various singers, Jim Jidhed makes the best appearance with his deep , heavy voice, reminiscent of Beef Byford (SAXON) in their melodic attempts, he brings extra depth and "heaviness" in the songs. There is the heart breaking "Open spaces" where SKAGARACK would be proud of their legacy to Scandinavian melodic rock. Denander is the master of his own games , combining excellently and with great craftsmanship heavy, melodic guitars in the vein of Lukather and Keyboards tasteful as Jonathan Cain's touches. The guitars at "Sweet little Tina" with Jeff Paris, wink at US melodic rock and NIGHT RANGER, so nobody stays unhappy.
"Reset" is one of the AOR albums where West Coast meets Scandinavian melodic rock, with all the ingredients in the right place to create the melodic, syrup filled, rock we love to enjoy, by the sea with a glass of wine, or in along car ride in the mountain meandering roads, with the proper ,female, company.A journey to the past to bring the best elements in today's sterile melodic rock scene with excellent songwriting, clear production and tasteful singers.
